Just Weed Strains (justweedstrains.com) is a New York cannabis information site. This page explains what information is collected when you visit, who receives it and why.
The short version
- You cannot create an account, post a comment or sign up for anything on this site, and we do not ask for your name or email address.
- We do not run advertising, and we do not sell or share personal information with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use Google Analytics or advertising trackers.
- Like every website, ours is delivered by service providers that see your IP address when your browser requests a page.
What is collected when you visit
Server and security logs
When your browser requests a page, our hosting provider and Cloudflare, the network that sits in front of the site for security and speed, record technical details of the request: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used to keep the site running, block abuse and diagnose problems. Cloudflare may set a cookie it needs to tell real visitors from automated traffic.
Page view counts
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many times each page is viewed. According to Cloudflare, it does not use cookies and does not track you from one site to another.
Searches
If you use the search box on the homepage, the words you type become part of the page address your browser requests, so they can appear in the server logs described above. Filtering and searching inside the strain database, the dispensary pages and the two tools happen in your browser.
If you write to the address at the bottom of this page, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use them only to deal with your request.
Content loaded from other companies
Some parts of our pages are delivered by other services. When your browser loads them, that service receives your IP address and basic browser details, as it would on any site you visit.
- Google Fonts. The typefaces on this site are loaded from Google’s font servers.
- YouTube. A few pages embed videos using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube receives information when the video loads or plays.
- Wikimedia Commons. Some article images are loaded from Wikimedia’s servers.
- New York State open data. The dispensary license checker downloads the state’s public license list straight from data.ny.gov to your browser. The names, streets or ZIP codes you type into the checker are matched on your device and are not sent to us or to the state.
Our pages also link to other sites, including dispensary websites, Google Maps and our sources. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
Cookies and storage in your browser
We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The site may store a few small items in your browser to make pages work:
- A cookie that remembers whether you collapsed the table of contents on an article.
- A copy of the state license list, kept in your browser’s local storage for up to six hours so the license checker opens faster.
- A short-lived entry in session storage that records whether your browser can display emoji, which is standard WordPress behavior.
The THC calculator runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter are not sent anywhere.
You can clear or block cookies and site storage in your browser settings. The site will still work.
How the information is used
The information above is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and understand which pages people read. We do not build profiles of visitors, and we do not try to identify you.
How long it is kept
We do not keep our own database of visitors. Logs held by our hosting provider and by Cloudflare are kept for the periods those providers set and are then deleted.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information a site holds about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used. Because we do not collect names, email addresses or accounts, we will usually hold nothing that identifies you beyond the technical logs described above. To ask, contact us using the details below.
Age
This site is intended for adults 21 and over. It is not directed at anyone under 21, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors.
Changes to this policy
If we add a feature that collects information, such as a form, a newsletter or an analytics service, we will update this page and the date at the top before it goes live.
