Weed prices by borough

Manhattan is the most expensive borough on paper, with a median eighth of $43. Brooklyn and Queens both sit at $40. The Bronx and Staten Island figures come from one shop each (Two Buds near Wakefield, and The Vault on Hylan Boulevard), so treat them as a snapshot of those stores, not the borough.

Price follows rent more than anything else. The highest Manhattan medians were in Chelsea, the East Village and the Financial District, while the lowest Brooklyn medians, $35, were in Park Slope, Bushwick and Carroll Gardens. Our NYC dispensary list has every licensed shop by borough.

Single grams and 0.7 g “pre-pack” jars cost $10 or so each, which makes them the most expensive way to buy, but the cheapest way to try a strain. Ounces were on 28 of the 32 menus; see the ounce price guide for the cheapest ones.

Does higher THC cost more?

A little. Eighths labeled 35% THC or higher had a median of $45, against $40 for the 25% to 30% range where most flower sits. But the link is weak: across all eighths with a THC label, the correlation between THC and price is only 0.22. Brand and growing method move the price more than the number on the label.

Indica, sativa and hybrid eighths cost the same in practice: medians of $40, $40 and $41. The type label does not change the price.

Tax: what gets added at the register

New York charges a 9% state retail tax and a 4% local retail tax on adult-use cannabis, 13% in total, so a $40 eighth costs $45.20 at the register. A separate 9% wholesale tax is paid further up the chain and is already built into the shelf price. Seven of the 32 menus we read appear to show prices with tax included (their prices end in odd cents), so compare like with like. The state’s Office of Cannabis Management lists the tax rules and purchase limits.

How to pay less for weed in NYC

  • Buy a bigger bag. A quarter or half ounce cuts the per-gram price by a quarter to almost half.
  • Look at value brands. Brands such as mini MART ($24 median eighth) and HERB ($22) sit at the bottom of the range. Our NY cannabis brands guide compares 12 of the most stocked brands.
  • Try smalls. Eighths of small buds had a median of $26.55; the weed is the same plant, the buds are just smaller.
  • Watch for sale prices. 210 eighth listings showed a sale price on Oct 19, with a median discount of 15%.
  • Bring cash or a debit card. Licensed shops cannot take credit cards, and some charge ATM fees.

Avoid the temptation of a cheap bag at an unlicensed smoke shop. Unlicensed products are not tested for mold, pesticides or heavy metals, and a “dispensary” sign means nothing without a license. Check any shop with our license checker before you buy.

How we counted

On Oct 19, 2026 we read every page of the flower menus of 32 state-licensed dispensaries: 13 in Manhattan, 11 in Brooklyn, 6 in Queens, 1 in the Bronx and 1 on Staten Island. We kept flower only and left out pre-rolls, infused flower, moon rocks and multi-strain packs. Eighth prices exclude smalls and shake. Each product counts once per shop, which is why this page shows 2,469 eighths while our NYC strain database, which keeps repeat listings, shows a slightly higher count. Prices are as listed; we did not add or remove tax. Menus change daily, so a given jar may cost more or less today.
