Where Blue Dream comes from

Nobody has a clean birth certificate for Blue Dream. High Times says the original breeder is unknown. The most common account credits a cross of DJ Short’s Blueberry with a Haze, and growers still argue over whether that Haze was Santa Cruz Haze or Super Silver Haze. The trail leads to the Santa Cruz area, with stories pointing to the hills above Bonny Doon or to the WAMM medical cannabis collective, and the strain dominated West Coast shelves from roughly 2003 to 2011.

Because the name spread faster than the cut, several plants are sold as Blue Dream. Weedmaps lists four: a clone-only DJ Short Blueberry F5 x Santa Cruz Haze from Northern California, Mystic Seeds’ Blueberry x OG Kush, DJ Short’s “Azure Haze,” and Humboldt Seed Organization’s Blueberry x Super Silver Haze. On NYC menus, the growers who named a cross all said Blueberry x Haze.

Popularity brought fakes. High Times cites a Leafbuyer and Trichome Institute analysis, which it notes was not a scientific study, that called Blue Dream the most counterfeited strain in Colorado. That is one more reason to buy from a licensed shop, where the grower is named on the label.

Aroma, flavor and terpenes

The name fits the smell. Leafly’s top flavor tags are berry, blueberry and sweet, and Weedmaps reviewers mostly report blueberry and berry with an earthy base, plus herbal, pine and citrus notes. Leafly lists myrcene as the dominant terpene, followed by pinene, which accounts for the pine edge, and caryophyllene, which adds a little spice.

THC and effects

Leafly lists Blue Dream at about 21% THC and notes it can run past 20%. Weedmaps gives a range of 15% to 27%. NYC labels on Oct 17, 2026 ran from 20% to 34%, so the bag in your hand may be far stronger than the strain’s reputation as an easy daytime smoke suggests.

Leafly reviewers most often tag it creative, euphoric and happy, and describe a balanced high that is mostly energizing with some body relaxation. Weedmaps users describe a clear-headed high without heavy sedation. The most reported downsides are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness. These are consumer reports, not predictions. Our THC calculator turns a label percentage into milligrams per serving.

We did not find a Blue Dream gummy or other edible on a New York licensed menu. A strain name on an edible is usually a flavor or a terpene profile, not the plant itself.
