Where Strawberry Diesel comes from

Strawberry Diesel has two family trees under one name. Leafly and AllBud list it as a cross of NYC Diesel and Strawberry Cough, and that is the version the UK seed company Holy Smoke Seeds sells. An earlier release from Reservoir Seeds, according to its SeedFinder listing, crossed Kyle Kushman’s Strawberry Cough clone with Sour Diesel males and came out as a limited edition of fewer than 100 packs. Weedmaps says plainly that these are two different plants sharing one name.

Either way, the strain is a New York story on both sides. Strawberry Cough is the berry-scented sativa tied to Kyle Kushman’s grows, NYC Diesel is the fruit-and-fuel diesel cut named for the city, and Sour Diesel is the strain most tied to New York. Grower forum posts credit Reservoir’s founder with working the cross in the mid 2000s, but no breeder has put a firm date on it, so we leave the year open.

Do not confuse it with Strawberry Sour Diesel. AllBud and several seed companies keep that name on separate pages with its own parents, and we counted it separately too.

Aroma, flavor and terpenes

Leafly’s flavor tags are strawberry, diesel and sweet, and Weedmaps reviewers split almost evenly between diesel, sweet and strawberry. A 2019 Westword review compared the jar to a black-and-tan beer, with the berry and the fuel sitting side by side instead of blending. Leafly lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, which brings a peppery note, followed by limonene and myrcene.

THC and effects

Leafly lists Strawberry Diesel at about 19% THC, AllBud gives 20% to 24%, and Weedmaps gives 19% to 26%. NYC labels on Oct 19, 2026 ran from 22% to 32%; the Dank jars sat at 32% and the Canna Cure dime bags at 22%.

Leafly reviewers, who rate it 4.4 out of 5 across about 360 ratings, most often tag it uplifted, happy and creative, and the most reported downsides are dry mouth, paranoia and dry eyes.
