Permafrost, also sold as Perma Frost, is a hybrid from Ziplock Seeds that crosses Permanent Marker with Frosted Flakes. In New York it is grown by Nanticoke in Endicott. It smells like candy gas and vanilla dough with a cool mint finish. On Oct 19, 2026 it was on 9 of the 32 licensed NYC dispensary flower menus we read, at $35 to $45 per eighth with 27% to 33% THC on the labels.

Where Permafrost comes from

Permafrost comes from Ziplock Seeds, a breeder in southern Oregon. Its product page lists the mother as Permanent Marker (Biscotti x Sherb backcross x Jealousy) and the father as Frosted Flakes, Ziplock’s own Cereal Milk x White Truffle. Ziplock says the strain took first place for sun-grown flower at the 2024 Aloha Cup in Hawaii; we found that claim only on the breeder’s site.

In New York, Permafrost comes from Nanticoke, the brand grown by NG Growers in a mixed-light greenhouse at the Nanticoke Gardens garden center in Endicott, Broome County. Co-owner Pete Shafer told Cannabis Business Times in July 2026 that the farm buys seeds from Ziplock Seeds, an Oregon breeder, and runs its own pheno hunts to pick the plants it grows. A photo in the same magazine’s profile of the farm shows Nanticoke’s Permafrost growing in Endicott.

There is an older strain with the same name. Leafly and Weedmaps describe a Permafrost from the Pacific Northwest bred from White Widow and Trainwreck, with about 21% THC and a pine scent. That plant is not what is in the Nanticoke jars, even though one Nanticoke product listing on Weedmaps mixes the two up.

Aroma, flavor and terpenes

Ziplock describes the flavor as candy gas and doughy vanilla up front, moving into a cool mint and menthol, then chem, sour diesel and earth. Nanticoke’s own copy calls it sweet, sour, minty and pungent, and Weedmaps tags its Nanticoke listings woody, mint and vanilla. The breeder also points to a frosty look with purple and lavender tones, which is where the name comes from. We found no published terpene test for the New York flower.

THC and effects

Ziplock puts Permafrost at 25% to 30% THC. NYC labels on Oct 19, 2026 ran from 27% to 33%, with most eighths at 28% to 29% and a Nanticoke half ounce at High Tidez in Coney Island at 33%.

Because the strain is new, there is no large pool of reviews yet. Nanticoke describes a powerful uplifting high with a euphoric rush that is energizing and creative, and most NYC menus label it a sativa hybrid. Is Permafrost legal in New York?

Yes, from a state-licensed dispensary to adults 21 and over with ID. The Nanticoke flower is grown and tested in New York, so it is legal in licensed stores. If you see an unbranded Permafrost in a smoke shop, it is not the same product and it is not a legal sale.
