Where Black Panther comes from
Black Panther is a Ziplock Seeds strain. The Oregon breeder’s product page lists it as Cheetah Piss x KY Jealousy, and Leaf Nation’s September 2026 feature explains the parents: Cheetah Piss from the Cookies family, and a LIT Farms selection of Watermelon Mimosa crossed with Jealousy. Ziplock says it won first place for outdoor flower at the 2024 Caribbean Cup in Colombia, and the breeder now sells dozens of crosses built on it.
Nine of the ten NYC menus carried Black Panther from Nanticoke, the brand grown by NG Growers in a mixed-light greenhouse at the Nanticoke Gardens garden center in Endicott, Broome County. Co-owner Pete Shafer told Cannabis Business Times in July 2026 that the farm buys seeds from Ziplock Seeds, an Oregon breeder, and runs its own pheno hunts to pick the plants it grows. The tenth, Jungle Kingdom in Bushwick, sold an ounce from a brand called Angry Bears; we could not confirm which Black Panther that brand grows.
The name has been used before. AllBud describes an older Black Panther, also sold as Black Panther OG, that is a phenotype of BC Black with a banana, plum and black pepper aroma, and Weedmaps lists an indica Black Panther from Black Domina and Purple Kush. Some NYC menu copy borrows the old BC Black description, but the plant in Nanticoke’s jars is the Ziplock cross.
Aroma, flavor and terpenes
Leaf Nation calls Black Panther a tropical, Burgundy wine and citrus-fuel strain, and growers reviewing Ziplock’s seeds describe a lemony Cheetah Piss smell and dense, frosty buds. There is no Leafly page for this plant yet. The only terpene data we found was a NYC shop’s listing for Nanticoke’s Black Panther cartridge, which named caryophyllene and limonene.
THC and effects
GrowDiaries growers report about 25% THC for Ziplock’s Black Panther. NYC labels on Oct 19, 2026 ran from 22% to 33%, which points to more than one harvest on shelves: the eighths at The Travel Agency and Budega read 22%, while those at Animo, Flower Daddy and The Cannabis Place read 29% and the one at Vaporize 33%.
Nanticoke describes bright energy that gets your mental gears turning, and Ziplock’s customer reviews call it a social, get-things-done smoke. That matches the sativa-leaning labels on most NYC menus. Those are grower and consumer descriptions, not predictions. Our THC calculator turns a label percentage into milligrams per serving.

Is Black Panther legal in New York?
Yes, from a state-licensed dispensary to adults 21 and over with ID. The jars on licensed NYC menus were grown in New York by licensed farms. Because several unrelated plants share the name, a Black Panther from an unlicensed shop may be a different strain altogether, and it is not a legal sale.
Check any store on the OCM dispensary verification page or with our license checker. Possession limits, where you can smoke and the tax rules are on our New York cannabis rules at a glance list, and the state’s summary is on the OCM adult-use page.
Black Panther in the news
Leaf Nation published “Ziplock Seeds’ Black Panther Feminized Seed Crosses” by David Downs in September 2026. It explains the Cheetah Piss and KY Jealousy parents, calls it the breeder’s most award-winning strain after wins in Colombia and Argentina, and covers the new line of feminized crosses built on it.
