Trop Cherry Strain: Lineage, THC and Where to Buy It in NYC

Trop Cherry, also sold as Tropicana Cherry, is a sativa-leaning hybrid from Relentless Genetics, a cross of Tropicana Cookies and Cherry Cookies. It smells like tangerine and cherry, and a Trop Cherry took first place among hybrid flower at the 2022 High Times Cannabis Cup in Michigan. On Oct 19, 2026 it was on 11 of the 32 licensed NYC dispensary flower menus we read, at $25 to $46 per eighth with 20% to 28% THC on the labels.

Where Trop Cherry comes from

Trop Cherry was bred by Relentless Genetics, which crossed Tropicana Cookies with its own Cherry Cookies F3 male, according to Leafly and SeedFinder. Leafly says the breeder works out of Colorado, and SeedFinder describes it as a southern U.S. group growing in the Colorado mountains. Neither gives a year for the cross.

It made its name in competitions. A Tropicana Cherries grown by The Herbal Cure and bred by Relentless took second place among hybrids at Colorado’s THC Classic in 2020, and in 2022 High Times gave first and second place in adult-use hybrid flower at its Michigan People’s Choice cup to two Tropicana Cherry entries. Since then it has become a parent itself: Leafly’s list of hot strains for 2026 names it as a parent of White Cherries.

One caution on the name. Weedmaps’ Trop Cherry page also mixes in an unrelated Tropical Cherry from another breeder, and Relentless sells separate crosses such as Trop Cherry Gas and Trop Cherry Pie. The jars in our count were labeled plain Trop Cherry.

Aroma, flavor and terpenes

Leafly sums up the smell as dank tangerines and cherry, and its flavor tags are tree fruit, tropical and berry. AllBud reviewers add citrus, orange and a sour, nutty edge. GreenState’s 2024 review found pear and lime on the nose and cherry on the inhale. Leafly lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and pinene, which fits a jar that leads with citrus.

THC and effects

Leafly lists Trop Cherry at about 25% THC, while AllBud gives 16% to 21% and Weedmaps 18% to 24%. NYC labels on Oct 19, 2026 ran from 20% to 28%, which makes it milder on paper than most of the city’s best sellers. The Florette and Munchkins jars were near the top at 28%, while the ElectraLeaf eighths and a House of Sacci eighth at Nicklz were closer to 20% to 22%.

Leafly reviewers, who give it 4.5 out of 5 across about 160 ratings, most often tag it focused, uplifted and energetic, and the most reported downsides are headache, anxiety and dry mouth. GreenState called the high energizing and mostly mental, with a warning that it can tip into anxious territory if you overdo it. Those are consumer reports, not predictions. The growers on those menus were House of Sacci, Hurley Grown, Florette, ElectraLeaf and Munchkins, more than for any other strain in this batch. The cheapest eighth was Munchkins at $25 at Jungle Kingdom in Bushwick. A few shops list prices with tax included, which is why some prices end in odd cents.
